President of NCDABA apologises to NCD Boxers for their Absence at Boxing Championships

By Jaylee Sapias – EM TV Sports, Port Moresby

As defending champions, Team NCD’s non-attendance at the National Boxing Championships in Kavieng, New Ireland, from the 26th-29th November, 2015 was a concern to the PNG Boxing Union.

President of the National Capital District Amateur Boxing Association, Honk Kiap, said in a statement, despite all the efforts made by the NCDABA Management to fly the team to Kavieng, it was unfortunate the team could not attend the Championships due to the fact that all flights were fully booked on the day the team had planned to travel.

“Further enquiry with Air Niugini revealed that 3 of its aircrafts were grounded for service and only one was used to serve the NGI region during this time hence the increase of passengers,” he said.

According to Kiap, the team’s non-participation was due to the fact that all necessary efforts and arrangements were affected by Air Niugini.

Kiap said due to circumstances beyond their control, the team had no choice but to withdraw from the Championships.

He apologised on behalf of his executives in a statement yesterday.
