NCC Needs More Funding

The National Cultural Commission has revealed it will need more funding to prepare and hostthe 5th Melanesian Festival of Arts and Culture next year.

 

Executive Director Dr Jacob Simet in a media conference on Monday said though K53m was approverd bythe National Executive Council to fund preparations for the festival,they have not received that money.

He saidthe delay has also revealed thatthey may need additional funding becausethey are running against time.

 

He said recently, Treasury had assuredthem thatthe funding would be made available soon.

 

“We’ve been assured thatthe funding is coming but it’sthe matter of when it will be with us,” said Simet.
 

The Melanesian Festival of Arts & Culture is a bi-annual event that began in 1998 after a resolve by MSG members to promote, maintain, and develop arts and culture. 

 

Ground work has already been done with several locations in Port Moresby identiflied as venues for the festival. Some would have to be built.

 

The vacant piece of land opposite Parliament House has been selected asthe main festival arena.

 

Delegates fromthe Council of Arts and Culture andthe Melanesian Spearhead Group Ministersof Arts & Culture, will arrive in Port Moresby on Tuesday for two regional meetings.

 

The meetings are a lead upthe 5th Melanesian Festival of Arts and Culture, to be hosted by Port Moresby next year.
