Nawaeb Education Developing

By Colleen Barilae – EM TV, Lae

Education services in the Nawaeb district of Morobe province remains a priority area for the district.

The people in the district are aiming at producing more educated people to bring back more services into Nawaeb. Nawaeb is mountainous and the students have to walk over rugged terrain just to get to the nearest school.

The district currently has 100 elementary schools, 30 primary schools and one high school.

Nawaeb High School, the only high school in the district, has been enrolling students from the 30 primary schools within the area.

Last year, more than 300 students were selected from the primary schools to do high school studies at Nawaeb High School.

The high school has, over the years, produced good students that have been selected for various secondary schools within Morobe province, as well as national high schools.

Ten grade 10 students from Nawaeb High School were selected for Sogeri National High School last year.

Nawaeb Education Coordinator, Michael Gerson commented on the good performance of his students, as well as their parents’ and teachers’ contribution in producing good students.

“The greatest achievements of Nawaeb High School so far is high performances of students that have led them to selection places in national high schools and the rest in secondary schools,” Mr Gerson said.

Two weeks ago, three isolated villages in the district, including Silawo village, received access to a new road.

The road is expected to open doors to more basic services for the area and, most importantly, boost the district’s education system.
