Naru Lashes Out Over Unofficial Gathering

The Morobe Governor has lashed out over the Morobeans who organized an unofficial gathering to discuss the Lae City Commission issue.

The proposed Lae City Commission has caused division between those who want a city commission and those who oppose it.

Kelly Naru, while maintaining his stand against the Lae City Commission, has called on the divided groups to gather, discuss and come up with a mutual understanding.

“As far as I’m concerned, any of these forums taking place that we haven’t been noted about will take us nowhere,” the Morobe governor said.

The divide between Morobeans – those who are for versus those who are against the proposed Lae City Commission – is mounting.

The issue that began earlier this month has attracted criticism from various parties within the province including business houses and the decision makers of province: the Provincial Executive Council.

Morobeans who have gone against the idea of a city commission said the idea will fuel corruption within the provincial government as it will give administrative powers to only a few people.

“We need proper consultation and dialogue so we can plan this thing properly. But unless we take this step seriously, there won’t be any solution reached,” Naru said.
