A special conference for Melanesian foreign ministers will be held today in Port Vila, Vanuatu.
The meet of the Melanesian Spearhead Group’s Foreign Ministers Meeting (MSG FMM) is to speak on the relief effort to the people and the Government of Vanuatu, after the devastating aftermath of Cyclone Pam.
The MSG foreign ministers will be visiting areas that have been affected by the tropical cyclone; this is part of the meeting programme. The Vanuatu National Disaster of Emergency Office will update the ministers on the situation following the disaster.
During their observations, the group of foreign ministers will address the issue by focusing on relief assistance and rehabilitation areas.
It has also been reported that Fiji’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola, will also be at the conference to observe the situation and brief the assembly on Fiji’s assistance to Vanuatu during this time.
Although the Government of Vanuatu is in a state of emergency, they are anticipating to host the MSG FMM.
The Melanesian Spearhead Group is made up of Fiji, Kanak Socialist National Liberation Front (FLNKS), Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu; to address and have solidarity on issues of common interest.
