Highlands Rehab program launched in Goroka

The National Government has launched one of its major road and rehabilitation program in history. Worth about K3 billion, upgrade and maintainance of the highlands highway will begin from Nadzab in Morobe to Western Highlands Province.

A ground breaking ceremony was done by Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill, in Goroka on Friday 18th of January to signify the commencing of the project.

Works Minister, Michael Nali, says the Sustainable Highlands Highway Investment Programme will be a major facelift and will be maintained to standards 3 Chinese contractors have been allocated sections of the Highlands highway.  “ This program is a key national project for the ruling Government”, said Nali.

He also urged communities living along the highway not to claim any compensation.

Work will begin from Nadzab and end at the Kagamuga Junction in Western Highlands.

A funding of K3billion kina is provided by the Asian Development Bank. Prime Minister Peter O’Neill says other national roads in the country will be considered upon its completion.
