THIRTY three small scale miners in Madang were taught how to conduct small businesses, basic geology, HIV and AIDS, environmental impacts, use of mercury and personal development.
This training for small scale miners hosted in Simbai, Madang Province last week is part ofthe fourteen programs scheduled bythe Mineral Resources Authority this year.
Practical lessons included basic book keeping, simple mining and processing and calculation of gold price and purity of gold.
MRA trainer Samuel Leonhard said he was impressed with those who participated.
Mr Leonhard said miners needed to know how to keep records oftheir proceeds and treattheir activities like businesses.
Withthe likes ofthe LNG project and more mines to be opened inthe next 5 years, MRA will expandthe training.
The Mineral Resources Authority had recorded over ninety thousand small scale miners inthe country. And for many it is a source of income.
