Mini Business Expo organisers have called on business women in Eastern Highlands province to promote their businesses by confidently approaching financial institutions for assistance.
Gehamosuha Events Planinng Company, a local events company, organised a mini women’s expo to showcase and promote local business women.
It was through the expo that they discovered women lacking the confidence to seek financial assistance from banks to grow their businesses.
Sir Danny Leahy Oval in Goroka was filled with displays and products of women’s handy–works. Most of these women operate from their backyard, slowly growing their business with hopes to find a niche in the domestic markets.
The displays ranged from floriculture, bilum-making through to tailoring, traditional medicine and Information technology and GPS Tracking systems.
The women who attended were grateful the expo provided an avenue for them to showcase their business. Nanna Nesa Aiwa owns an IT company, Dawn Technology, while Martina Yambun owns a flower business. They spoke highly of the women’s expo.
As part of promoting the SME sector, Josephine Peter, from National Development Bank Lending Section urged the women to ask more questions if and when they visited the bank to take out loans.
Over 30 business women attended the two-day expo.
All information from the various businesses were recorded by organisers of the event to provide assistance in terms of helping the women register their companies well or to help them source funds from financial institutions.
