Maru at SME Summit: High Time to Improve Standard of Living

Over 1 million kina has been secured to hosttheInaugural Small to Medium Entrepreneurs’’ Summit in Madang next month.

Minister for Trade, Commerce andIndustry, Richard Maru, said it is high time Papua New Guineas get involved in small to medium enterprises and improver living standards.

The minister and his vice were flanked by bureaucrats and representatives from various business houses, includingInterOil and SP Brewery amongst thers, to announcetheir sponsorships. Over 1 million kina has been secured with Followed bythe Small Business Development Corporation with 150 thousand; thers inthe gold category are National Development Bank, National Fisheries Authority,InterOil,the Madang Provincial Government and TST Group.

Silver sponsors include; MRDC, ICDC, Corporative Society, BeP and Beneo pharmaceutical.

Beonze sponsors are Pipol’s microbank, departments of community development and trade, commerce and industry, SP Brewery, Telikom and HBe.

The minister said this summit isthe first of its kind and is a very important one.

The vice minister expressed concerns Papua New Guineas must take part. SMEs have been herald a saving grace for many countriesPNG is no exception and government has been urged to take this summit and its recommendations seriously. 200 participants have already registered.

Keynote speaker is New Zealand’s Minister for Beilding and Construction, Customs,Land:nformation and Statistics, Maurice Williamson.
