Finance and Education Minister, James Marape, praised schools throughoutthe country with initiatives of attracting teachers from abroad to teach special subjects.
Mr Marape’saysPNG has a great need of more than 10,000 teachers to meetthe required ration of teachers to students’in schools.
However, Mr Marape’strongly acknowledged that a policy has been in place to stop such ideas of recruiting teachers from abroad. The Finance and Education Minister voiced that this practice will cease soon.
He says, despitethe attempt of Teacherscolleges throughoutthe country producing teachers for secondary, primary and elementary levels, more schools in rural districts face enormous obstacles from a lack of teachers.
This has resulted in schools being closed for years and thus increasingthe number of illiterate children. Mr Marape wants this to stop as education will be compulsory next year.
He says, children are a vital resource ofthe country anPNG’s future depends entirely onthe level of education each child receives.
