In preparation for the 2018 APEC meeting in next month, Civil Aviation Minister, Alfred Manase says his ministry is APEC ready.

Minister Manase says Jacksons International Airport will be able to park more than five Boeing 747 airplanes on its tarmac and that the airport and its facilities are CASA compliant.

Minister Manase outlined work that has been completed, and a few that are soon to be finished at Jacksons International Airport.

He said the National Airports Corporation in the last six months, has overlaid the runway, at a cost of K65 Million. The runway was re-sealed, and work was completed in August this year.

“Now there is work being done on the landside, the airport redevelopment. We’re working towards parking five or six bigger 747’s and work on that is running smoothly, we got Hebou and Global doing that work”

Work on the airport’s tarmac will be completed by the end of this month and a new VIP terminal will also be completed, which will be used specifically to process all APEC delegates.

After APEC it will be open for public use.

Manase says four arrow bridges will be completed in early November at the International Airport.

“With the load of work that is being done 24 hours by the contractors and the team from NAC, I’m so pleased that our engineers that had sleepless nights, just to ensure that the project is complete within three months.” said the Aviation Minister.

Manase added, that PNG Air Services have upgraded their technologies to world standard and will be able to coordinate all flights in and out of the country.

They have upgraded their satellites and are able to track flights from 200 miles.
