Robert Kaungere of Dangale, a village on the volcanic Manam Island, has stepped out to help his people at the Asarumba Care Centre in Madang.
Kaungere, a geologist by profession, is currently on the ground in Asarumba helping to improve and ensure his people get clean drinking water.
Everything he is doing, from purchasing the equipment to setting up cemented water tanks and piping water from the dam, is out of his own pocket. This includes paying a handyman he brought along to help him get the job done.
The islanders are now appealing to other Manam Islanders from around PNG and overseas, who are specialised in fields similar to that of Kaungere’s, to use their expertise to help.
