Senior Magistrate at the Waigani Committal Court, Comsmas Bidar, has appealed to his counterparts serving in Papua New Guinea to be smarter when dealing with current court proceedings.
Bidar said magistrates must be exposed to new crimes invading in PNGsociety because criminals are becoming more sophisticated, with the use of modern technology.
He added that the trend of committing crimes has changed, unlike in the past, with the use of modern technology including mobile phones.
Currently, there is a need for more magistrates to meet the growing demands of every new case, however only 80 magistrates are servicing the 121 districts across the country.
Meanwhile, Bidar said all magistrates must be exposed to the proceedings of new crimes and weigh down the cases properly, so they will not become a threat to society.
