Loopholes in Inter-Tribal Fighting Act

Due to loopholes intheInter-Tribal Fighting Act,the Wabag District Court has dismissed forty nine men charged with involving in tribal fighting.

The Court last Friday said it does not recognizethe particular area as a tribal zone underthe Act andtherefore it is a no case.

The previous day, Enga Provincials Police Commander, Superintendent Philip Weila and his men had acted quickly to stop what could have been an all-out-war between two rival clans.

Two groups of men fromthe Akom area of Wabag District numbering up to forty nine are fromthe Wapukin and Ambulin clans.

They formed an ally to attack anther clan, the Sikins over a previous tribal fight some years back.

The ther tribe who instigatedthe fight, the Sikins are yet to be apprehended for their involvement in destruction of properties and killing.

This is a concern for Police inthe province because; an existing peace agreement betweenthese two clans andthe Sikin clan has been broken.

There are ongoing tribal fights elsewhere inthe province.

Due to increasing tribal fights inthe province, Police in Enga are now adamant to fully exploit and enforcetheInter- Tribal Fighting Act.

Now withthe loophole intheInter-Tribal Fighting Act identiflied bythe Courts, it will have to be rectiflied before those involved can be arrested, charged and punished according to law.

Underthe Actthe provincial Government is supposed to declarethe area as a tribal fighting zone for those involved to be arrested and charged.
