West Taraka Community Leaders: ‘Let’s Work Together’

Law and order remains the single most important issue in Papua New Guinea. This issue can be addressed properly with proper consultation between individuals, community leaders and government authorities.

This was expressed today by the community leaders of West Taraka in Lae, Morobe Province.

Over the last two weeks, there was a major clash between residents of Sialum compound in Lae.

A alcohol related issue led to another clash at Banana Block in Cassowary Road during independence last week.

Community leaders of West Taraka, have suggested ways to improve law and order in the area.

Most of the crimes happen because of unemployment and lack of opportunity.

Alu Pagau says a discussion should happen between community leaders and government authorities to help minimize crimes in the area.

Garungs Marian, a former Police Constable who retired in 1970, volunteered to serve as a peace mediator says, crime in West Taraka today has been the same as it was in the past.
