Late MP Mona Farewelled

by Stanley Ove Jr – EM TV, Port Moresby

The casket of the late Goilala MP, Daniel Mona was brought into the chambers of Parliament this afternoon.

The Prime Minister and some State Ministers were there to receive his casket. After viewing his body, he was taken to St Charles Luwanga Catholic Church for his final blessing.

Hundreds gathered to witness the late MP’s funeral. He was described by the Bishop of the Goilala Catholic Parish as a man who thought of his people.

The late MP had a colourful career as a public servant. He was a journalist by profession before moving into to the political arena.

He shared same sentiments as his father before him. His father, Loui Mona was the first Goilala MP and former defense minister.

The MP was the second born of five children. Born in rural Tapini in Goilala, he was determined to bring much needed services to his people.

He fell ill late last year and died early this year. His body will be laid to rest this Saturday at Goilala, Central Province.
