Lands Minister directed to clean up department

An investigating team will be commissioned to look into all alleged fraudulent land deals.

Minister forLands and Physical Planning Benny Allan announced this on Wednesday after direction fromthe Prime Minister to clean upthe Department.

Minister Allan assured that no stone will be left unturned. All claims of corrupt deals inthe Department ofLands and Physical Planning will be investigated and any officer or stakeholder implicated will be seriously disciplined and prosecuted.

Enquiries will begin as soon asthe investigation team is commissioned. Amongthe numerous land deals that will be investigated, isthe recent one in Benz, Jiwaka Province.

To fast-trackthese investigations, a Complaints Desk has been set up atthe Department where all complaints can be lodged.

Minister Allan has already met with senior departmental officers who are now aware ofthe commission of inquiry.

The Department ofLands and Physical Planning isthe custodian of all alienated land in PNG and Mr. Allan said he will not tolerate anyone, including internal officers, who facilitate land deals through fraudulent means.
