Lands Department Allowing Illegal ILG to Operate, Claim Roku Land Group

By Quinton Alomp – EM TV, Port Moresby

A landowner association from Roku village in Central province, has raised allegations against the Lands Department, for allowing a “shadow” ILG to operate, despite knowing its status.

The group also raised concerns that the Registrar of Incorporated Land Groups, Iruna Rogakila, has forced the Kuriu clan to elect their executives today against their will.

The Kuriu clan leaders say the Lands Department is aware of the illegal ILG but “failed to terminate it.”

The Lands department is again questioned on its roles and responsibility in granting licenses to incorporated land groups.

This time the Kuriu land group from Roku village in Central province, demanded to know why a “shadow” ILG known as Ohobidudura is still functioning despite the Central provincial Lands court decision on 2nd September 2014, declaring it illegal.

Kuriu ILG Treasurer, Ray Ahuta says after the court decision, they have made a submission to Mr Rogakila to dismiss this false ILG but claimed it is still operating.

He said while this is still pending, the ILG registry office is forcing the Kuriu clan to elect their executives, claiming they have a leadership issue.

Mr Ahuta claimed the “shadow” ILG has been receiving millions of kina by leasing certain land area to five different companies near Roku village.

Their complaint is now registered with the police.
