Kua: Review Decision on Vegetable Import

By Jack Lapauve Jr – EM TV News, Port Moresby

Member for Sinasina Yongomugl, Kerenga Kua, has backed the assertion from the Independent Consumer and Competition Commission, ICCC, that the exemption of one vegetable importer is wrong.

MP Kua says, this will lead to an undisputed monopoly in the agriculture industry.

The former Attorney General Minister said the decision by Agriculture Minister, Tommy Tomscoll, is discriminatory and wrong in law.

Kua says the law may apply to one’specific vegetable importer and not all vegetables.

“One importer cannot be granted an exemption to the general ban discriminating against all the other vegetable importers,” Kua stated.

“To the extent the exemption favors only one importer and that is wrong,” he added.

He urged the Agriculture Minister to review his decision and make a better decision for all stakeholders in the vegetable import industry.

MP Kua has urged those in authority to make decisions where everyone can be equal benefactors of the vegetable industry.

Kua says there are better decisions which the Agriculture minister and the department can make for the country.
