The people of Ijivitari District inthe Nothern Province will no longer have to travel to town to processtheir cheques.
For far too longthe people have to travel hours into Popondetta town to havetheir claims processed. Bet this will not bethe case anymore.
They now have a district treasury office attheir convenience. It is located at Katereda overlooking Oro Bey.
The Office and nine staff houses is part ofthe Ijivitari District Treasury Roll out program funded bythe National Government at cost of K2.7m.
The office was commissioned recently bythe Minister for Finance James Marape. He was also giventhe courtesy to print outthe first cheque.
Mr. Marape urged public servants inthe district to ensure compliance ofthe Public Finance Management Act. This is to ensure transparency and accountability of public funds, he said.
Bet with this impressive buildingthe locals also want impressive public servants who can deliver.
Acting Ijivitari District Treasurer Florence Wally expects her staff to perform. She said excuses will not be tolerated.
