Papua New Guineas have been advised bytheIndependent Consumer and Competition Commission not to purchase baby formula Nutricia KariCare, a New Zealand product.
New Zealand Company, Fonterra, revealed inthe media recently that its baby formula productoNutricia KariCare, was harmful.
It contains toxic substances that can cause a medical condition in babies known as Betulism, which can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, paralysis and death.
ICCC as a consumer watchdog has warned mthers not to buythe product. Those who are usingthe product at present must stop immediately.
A ban onthe product will come into effect next week. Meantimethey have also called on shop owners to removerthe product fromtheir shelves.
The market place will be monitored by ICCC to make sure Nutricia KariCare is not being sold.
Whenthe ban is in place, suppliers must take note that severe penalties will be imposed ifthey choose to ignorethe law.
