High Performance Sports

Provincial and international athletes of the Momase region will benefit from services such as athlete performance and coach education and mentoring provided by the High Performance Sports initiative.

PNG High Performance Director, Aaron Alsop, said the services will be provided free to national athletes.

The Sir Ignatius Kilage indoor and outdoor stadiums in Lae will soon be a high performance sporting venue for local, provincial and international athletes from all provinces in Momase.

This service was recently introduced in Momase under a special project implemented by the PNG Sports Foundation.

Alsop says this special project came into existence three years ago.

The high performance initiative aims to provide services in improving athlete performance in areas such as sports science, sports medicine and injury prevention and management.

Provincial athletes who wish to access these services are requested to pay a user fee.

In preparation of the seventh PNG Games in November, the High Performance Sports PNG team will coordinate an awareness session to Team Morobe, and other interested athletes at Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium on Friday and Saturday.
