Hela Walk For Peace And Health

The Hela Provincial Health Authority recently held a walk for peace and health in the province to commemorate Papua New Guinea’s 44th Independence Anniversary.

Hela Provincial Hospital CEO, Dr James Kintwa, says the main purpose of the walk is to promote peace and good health, and minimize tribal fighting in the province.

The walk was initiated by the Provincial Health Authority to encourage people to consider their health when they are alive and well.

Over Five Hundred people from all works of life, including the PNG Defence Force soldiers based in Hela Province, walked more than 20 kms from Tari town to Ambua Gap along the highlands highway recently.

CEO, Dr James Kintwa is leading this awareness drive that is promoting health and peace as important assets of life.

The walk for peace and health to Ambua is to shed some light to surrounding villages that life is very important and there must be respect for one another, the Ambua Gap is known to many members of the traveling public as a dangerous place to travel through known for armed holdups and killings.

The walk was also supported by Oil Search Foundation, BSP, and other institutions.

They encouraged Hela people to live in peace, and to give moral support to Prime Minister James Marape, who hails from Hela Province.
