Hekari United remain undefeated in the southern conference. The championship side defeated the last placed, Star Mountain FC, over the weekend with two goals to one.
It was first versus last in the southern conference of the National Soccer League on Saturday with Hekari United undefeated so far in the competition, taking on Star Mountain FC, who have been win-less.
A lot of anticipation by the crowd for Hekari to pile on the points early but the match was slow to shift into high gear, and a surprise when Hekari’s miss communication in defence gifted Star Mountain with a goal, striker Daniel Orim, getting one past Hekari Keeper Ismael Pole. The men from Western Province clearly ecstatic about the goal. Hekari not to be outdone by the minnow team tried their best to kick a few goals – all missing the target. Star Mountain also worked hard in defence to stop the Hekari advance.
The scores remained one nil into halftime but when the teams got back, it was Hekari that snatched victory scoring two unanswered goals one from Gibson Dau Dau and Kolu Kepo scoring the match winner.
Star Mountain tried to claim a few late goals but Hekaris Keeper, Ismael Pole, was up in defence.
Hekaris team Manager, Vonnie Kapi Natto, didn’t think her team underestimated their opponents but gave credit to Star Mountain for their performance.
Three disallowed goals to Hekari by the sideline referee citing offside but Vonnie knew Hekari had the game in the bag.
