PORT MORESBY, July 14 – Adrien Perez (NCL) will start the defence of his golf title in the individual event at the Pacific Games on Wednesday July 15 at the Port Moresby Royal Golf Course.

Perez won individual and team gold at Noumea 2011 on top of bronze at Apia 2007 in Samoa.

In the women’s tournament, Priscilla Gracia from New Caledonia will be hoping to finally crack top spot on the podium in the individual event after winning silver medals in both Suva 2003 and Apia 2007.

Gracia then missed out on a bronze medal four years ago by three shots, but was part of the New Caledonian women’s team that won consecutive gold medals in 2007 and 2011.

The 31-year-old’s experience will no doubt prove valuable for her teenage teammates Tess Hillaireau (14), Abeline Fermaut (14) and Arianne Klotz (17).

Three of the Tahiti women’s golf squad will also be calling upon worldly wisdom of a teammate as the combined ages of Maggy Dury (13), Mareva Collado-Nordhoff (15) and Anne Va’a Nauta (21) still falls short of 55-year-old Denise Taruoura ep Yan.

New Caledonia has won the bulk of the medals at the last three Pacific Games, taking seven of the 12 on offer in Noumea, including five of six individual medals and both team events.

The winners in the individual events will be the player with the lowest total score after four rounds while in the team event, the lowest three scores of four players will be added together each day and the team with the lowest total score after four days takes the gold medal.
