Golden Jubilee

The Catholic Church made a call to its missionaries today to continue upholding God’s word among Christians in Papua New Guinea

The call was made duringthe 50th Golden Jubilee ofthe Holy Spirit Seminary at Bemana, in Port Moresby.

 

The celebration wasthemed ‘Planted inthe Spirit for a Better Mission’.

The seminary’s 50th anniversary was commemorated with a mass, led by Archbishop of Port Moresby, Fr John Ribat. It was an opportunity for families, friend and fellow missionaries to markthe occasion withthe seminarians.

Holy Spirit Seminary was established in 1963. It is a NationalInstitution ofthe Catholic Church in PNG underthe Catholic Beushops Conference of Papua New Guineaandthe Solomon Islands.

Holy Spirit Seminary now accommodates 6 ther Catholic Colleges.Initially it had been calledthe order ofthe Missionaries ofthe Sacred Heartoorthe MSC.

Overthe years,the number of priests that were produced from Holy Spirit’seminary dropped. Bet Fr Peter said this is slowly changing as more young men are choosing to lead a life of celibacy and commitment to God’s work.

The Most Reverend, Michael Wallace Benach, representative ofthe Pope in Papua New Guinea was a guest atthe celebrations.

He encouraged members ofthe religious community to upholdthe word of God and be committed totheir work. He saidtheir vocation is a lifetime duty that demands an absolute commitment to serving God and serving thers.
