Police Commissioner, Gari Baki, says there is evidence of bribery relating to police fraud officers, receiving money to investigate the Eastern Highlands and Simbu Provincial Administrations.
He confirmed that four other members of the fraud directorate have also been suspended for conducting an unsanctioned investigation into the Simbu Provincial Administration.
Upon receiving reports that funding for the Simbu investigation was from another source, Commissioner Baki directed the investigators to retreat, but they did not.
Now, the Simbu investigation itself is being investigated.
For Eastern Highlands, Baki confirmed that the Provincial Executive Council has approved more than K1.5 million to allow for fraud officers to investigate the Provincial Administrator.
However, Baki said he has evidence that each investigator allegedly received a substantial amount of cash each.
Baki said that numerous investigations have been allegedly influenced and paid off by people seeking to manipulate and pervert the course of justice.
He added that other members of the fraud squad would also be investigated for alleged personal enrichment.
Officer in Charge of Fraud, Inspector Joel Simatab, has also been suspended, and will be arrested and charged for bribery and official corruption allegations.
