Four People Hospitalised in Moresby

By Quinton Alomp – EM TV News, Port Moresby

A drinking spree following the State of Origin match last night has resulted in four people being hospitalised after they were involved in a car accident today.

The four, two males and two females believed to be from Baruni village outside Port Moresby, had been drinking homebrew.

The private cab they were travelling in collided with a vehicle owned by company Curtain Brothers, near the Motukea Wharf at midday today.

Eyewitnesses say the cab was travelling at high speed.

One man was seriously injured, and others sustained injuries from the crash and were rushed to the hospital.

NCD Metropolitan Superintendent, Ben Turi, says drivers must consider road safety advice as Port Moresby leads the country in road accident statistics.

Statistics collected from the National Road Safety Council show that Port Moresby has the highest number of road accidents, followed by Morobe and Western Highlands provinces.

Fatal accident figures show that between 200-300 people die each year.
