Former Prime Minister Wants Resources Laws To Change For People To Benefit and Gain Economic Independence

By Jack Lapauve- EMTV News, Port Moresby

Former Prime Minister, Sir Julius Chan, wants the country to gain economic independence.

Sir Julius said for more than 40 years, our resource laws have indirectly prohibited ordinary people from benefiting. He wants all laws guiding the resource sector to be changed, to suit resource owners, so true independence is achieved for a better Papua New Guinea.

He says if the benefits of the vast resources are shared equally, the country will be truly Independent.

Sir Julius Chan is the country’s second Prime Minister, and one of our founding fathers after gaining Independence. He has been in politics for over 50 years.

Serving as New Ireland Governor, Sir Julius wants better laws to help provinces grow their economy.

Governor Chan says for over 40 years, the country has thrived as a nation. With New Ireland among other 3 provinces pushing for autonomy, Governor Chan wants people to understand the type of autonomy where people are the focus, and there is better resource sharing for all to benefit.
