Reigning PNG National Snooker champion, Djorne Fong, arrived in Port Moresby from Kavieng to defend his title.
The eight-time champion aims for his 9th consecutive title as the 2016 BSP Major National Snooker Championships cued off yesterday.
Fong was accompanied by last year’s BSP Minor Snooker Title winner and younger sibling Monty, Stallone and dad Harry Fong.
Last year’s runner up and current PNG player of the year Marcus Ng will again be the main obstacle to Djorne wining his 9th title.
There are 40 players nominated to participate in this year’s title.
Minor title winner, Marcus Rahman has been granted an automatic entry into the Major titles.
A briefing was held yesterday at the Lamana Q Club where draws were done and the first matches were played.
Matches will be played at the Lamana Q Club, Laguna Hotel and Aviat Club.
