Fiji Pushing for World Cup Contention

by Lorraine Genia – EM TV Sports, Port Moresby

Following their 10 point upset win over Samoa in the Pacific Nations Cup final on Monday, former Fijian sevens star Waisale Serevi believes his countrymen have what it takes to cause an upset in the 2015 Rugby World Cup which starts next month.

England coach Stuart Lancaster is also a fan, and says the Fijians stand a very good chance of progressing to the quarter final stage from their preliminary pool which includes his England side, along with Wales and Australia.

Lancaster told England Rugby he was paying attention to the Pacific Nations Cup, and from Fiji’s performance against Samoa he knows Pool A will be full of depth and talent. Following their win on Monday, he says the pool matches will certainly prove to be entertaining, and will no doubt come right down to the wire.

In the meantime, the Fijians have returned home for a few days of recovery before heading into physical training for World Cup which begins in England on September 18.
