Recently hit by the Tropical typhoon Maysak, just over a month ago, the Federated States of Micronesia got another surprise when it got a visit from another tropical storm, Typhoon Noul.
The slow moving storm caused by Noul lasted almost all throughout the night and continuing throughout the day.
Noul slammed through Yap and Utili with its strong tropical winds.
The first catastrophic storm caused by Typhoon Maysak left the state devastated with about 90% of Yap’s and Chuuk’s food crops destroyed along with 281 homes. It also left 5 people dead, with the country still in a process of assessing the damages left by Maysak.
Andrew Yatilman, FSM’s director of the Emergency Management Office, said that the current destruction caused by the recent tropical storm is yet to be assessed while he expects the area’s most vulnerable to be the ones previously devastated by Maysak.
“We know that while it was only tropical storm force winds it actually became a typhoon as it was just passing Yap. The length of time that they were experiencing tropical storm force winds, that would have created a lot of damage too,” Mr Yatilman said.
