West New Britain Governor, Sasindran Muthuvel says, the changing weather pattern should be taken seriously. He says global warming was unlikely to happen at this rate, if people were kind to the environment.
Governor Muthuvel wants people to stop cutting down trees and other damages caused to the environment.
The West New Britain Governor expressed concerns of the destruction of the environment, caused by humans. He says, soil erosion during floods would not happen if people had care for their environment.
Muthuvel urged people, in all communities, to change their attitude towards the culture of cutting trees.
He made these statements following his assessment on the recent floods, in parts of West New Britain.
Meanwhile Muthuvel says comments made by the weather office on “the current weather pattern in the country being normal,” is not good enough.
The governor called on the national government to release relief funds for provinces affected by floods.
Similar calls were made by the National Disaster Head Office.
