Lae District is working to improve its community policing by providing training and support to more than 20 village court magistrates.
The workshop, which was opened today by Lae MP, Loujaya Kouza, has attracted village court magistrates from the Lae and Aihi LLGs.
Community policing is an area the MP is working to improve upon, primarily to address law and order problems starting from the community level.
This initiative has come about due to the ever-increasing law and order crimes throughout a number of Lae’s communities.
Among the group of 20 were police officers, looking to improve upon their skills for when it comes to working directly with these communities.
The challenge lies in the limited financial help given when looking to extend their services to the communities.
They have called on the government and business houses in Lae to provide funding support for the volunteer work they do in order to maintain law and order in these areas.
