EMTV, Papua New Guinea’s oldest Television Station is listed among the top 10 local brands, a recent survey reveals.
According to a new online survey by Business Advantage PNG, EMTV stands to be one of PNG’s most recognisable local brands and one of the only two in the media family.
The poll conducted in August 2017 with PNG Facebook users focused on brands that are unique to PNG.
Business Advantage reports that the intent was to look at PNG brands rather than the brands of global companies that operate subsidiaries in PNG.
Standing out among other media outlets and TV Stations, not only is EMTV well known as history speaks for itself.
EMTV has a nationwide presence since 1987 when it commenced broadcasting within the National Capital District.
It is indeed PNG’s oldest and largest television station, and has been the country’s window to the world for over three decades.
With its free-to-air TV services since day one, it is also one of the most respected and trusted sources of news and information in the country today.
Recently celebrating its 30 years of broadcasting, EMTV is now received in real time via satellite over 50 centres throughout Papua New Guinea.
Based on 2000 Census information the EMTV footprint is approximately 45% of PNG’s total population of approximately 6 million people, but this is due to increase today.
Easy to pronounce and remember, EMTV is a household name to many Papua New Guineans.

Quite so – and so it should be – such a lot has been done over the years. The respect – the recognition has been earned.
And Fiji Television sold it!
Many people mostly outside PNG, still want to pronounce it E.M TV – when Papua New Guineans know it as “EM” TV – That’s Television.
