The Department of Education is set to establish its first time-in management system in all schools throughout the country.

Aimed to reduce teacher absenteeism, this system is said to improve attendance by 25 per cent, and will create a better management of their national salary system to address prolonged financial issues in the department.

The system will also be used to minimise the number of ghost names in the teaching ministry and Acting Education Secretary, Dr Uke Kombra, said the Department will be able to monitor teachers.

“Education will be seen in real time at the district and provincial level for the first time.

“We will be able to see who is actually in school to teach. Our national payroll system will be monitored and we will pay accordingly to teachers who are performing,” Dr Kombra said.

Education Minister, Nick Kuman, said it is part of the commitment of the Government to deliver quality education, and the Government is keen on achieving this project.

“All schools in PNG will have this system and it will enable us (Government) to know exactly how many teachers there are; who is performing in terms of delivering the Government’s vision of quality education,” Minister Kuman said.
