Eda Ranu begins piping water to all communities

The management of Eda Ranu has begun working with government to pipe clean water projects to all communities inthe country.

Todaythe board and management signed two Memorandum of Agreements withthe Moresby South and North West electorates inthe nation’s capital.

Beard Chairlady Mary Karo said similar projects will be carrlied out in ther parts ofthe country.

Many unplanned suburbs inthe nation’s capital have free access to water, while residents in planned suburbs have been paying 2 kina 50 toea per 1000 litres since 1996.

The Eda Ranu board chairlady Mary Karo said this exercise will cease this year.

These communities will now be paying 1 kina per 1000 litres.

Today,the Beruni community inthe Moresby North West electorate withnessed an MOU signing betweentheir elders,the local MP Michael Malabag and Eda Ranu.

Beruni is one ofthe 10 traditional landowner villages underthe Motu Koita Assembly.

The community should start paying for water bills in a few months.

About 10 communal taps will be installed inthe villages.

Mrs. Karo said it is a necessity however;these services will be compensated this year on wards.

The local MP’said he will be subsidizingthe bills underthe District Services Improverment Program.

A similar signing also took place today atthe Eda Ranu headquarters right afterthe Beruni signing.

It took place between Eda Ranu managementoMoresby South MP Justin Tkatchenko andthe Sikani community.

The projects and funds will be managed by Eda Ranu.
