DWU Solomon Island Bring Pacific Blend Of Culture

Solomon Island students attending Madang's Divine Word University say studying and living in Papua New Guinea is an experience.

They were today preparing for the DWU cultural show on the 23rd of August 2014, which is on the next day.

 

This is their second year to take part in the show and the group will come with a more pacific blend.

 

John Iro is a third year accounting student he talks about the culture he sees entwined with modern Papua New Guinea.

 

“In Papua New Guinea the people hold on firmly to their cultural ways. Sometimes it's hard for change because of this,” he says.

 

He and other students come from Malaita in the Solomon Islands attend DWU, and study different courses.

 

Brian Idufanoa also comes from Malaita Province and he is taking Health Management.

 

“Its a privilege to come to Papau New Guinea and study” he says.

 

The number of Students has increased at the school and they have brought with them a blend of culture into the institute.

 

They come from several different provinces in the Solomon Islands.
 

 

Pacific Island students in the past came to PNG to study, but the numbers have declined due to various reasons.

    

One of which could be that Higher standards are being offered by other Universities around the region.
