National Agricultural Research Institute, Director General Dr. Sergie Bang, said Agri-tourism could be developed using Nari’s Agricultural innovations.
He said this whilst promoting NARI’s annual agricultural show that has recently brought more Agricultural based corporate sponsorship.
It comes as Papua New Guinean women look to participate in the Agri-Tourism industry.
Whilst speaking about the annual NARI show at Lae’s ten mile in three days, NARI Director General, Dr. Sergie Bang also answered questions about the role NARI would play in promoting Agri-Tourism.
“Vegetables growers who don’t use chemicals on their crops can sell their produce to Hotels,” he said.
Dr. Bang’s remarks come as NARI aims to promote Agricultural SME development and Rural Empowerment in its show this Wednesday.
About eighty five percent of PNG’s population live in rural areas and are engaged in some sort of Agricultural base of living that include income streams.
Agri-Tourism can become a pivotal factor for rural developments, said Women In Agriculture Director, Maria Linibi.
“I for one always say, if I went to another country id like to stay at a local place and eat local food, so it’s the same with PNG and our visitors,” she said.
