In East Sepik Province, a PMV truck carrying tertiary students of the Seventh Day Adventist church, while returning from a church gathering in Aitape, West Sepik Province, overturned near Wewak.
According to eyewitnesses in Wewak who wished not to be named, they said five of the passengers are reported to have died.
“Five of the students died and their bodies were taken by their families.”
“We are very sad because this has occurred in this festive season. It’s shocking.”
They said others were critically injured and have received medical treatment from Boram General Hospital.
This afternoon EMTV News tried to contact the Wewak Police Station, and the office of the Provincial Police Commander, but were unsuccessful to confirm this incident.
EMTV News also tried contacting the health authorities on the ground but couldn’t reach them.
