APEC member countries have identified early warning signs as the best approach to minimising damages caused by natural disasters.
For Papua New Guinea, the challenge is on disseminating correct information to people in disaster-prone areas.
The two-day meeting involved discussions on how to better prepare for natural disasters.
The working group identified early warning signs and early evacuation plans as two approaches that locals can take should a natural disaster occur.
During the discussions, the United States shared its experience when in was hit by a Bush Fire in 2017 and Hurricane in 2018.
Papua New Guinea has experienced three natural disasters in the last two months.
The recent being the earthquake which affected five provinces, four in the Highlands Region.
For PNG, the challenge is to come up with better approaches on how to minimize the damages that may be caused by natural disasters.
