The participants of the Demographic Health Survey undergo an Anthropometrics training today.
It is used to identify the human physical variation, which includes the measurement of an individual human being.
This part of the survey covers children from ages between birth to five years old.
The participants of the Demographic Health Survey in Lae, took some time out to bring in their children, to be part of today’s training.
The training was based on Anthropometrics, a measurement or description of the physical dimensions and properties of the body.
The interviewers together with their assistant are required to take down measurements on heights and weights of children from birth to five years old.
Juliana Niakambari, one of the participants says the data collected is important for the health sector.
Jeffery Adams, the Provincial Survey Coordinator, says the actual survey will be conducted in all nine districts of Morobe Province.
However, not all areas will be covered. The census unit will be randomly selected to undergo the survey.
Adams said there will be a practical period of three months after the training ends this weekend.
Some of the interviewers who were involved in the 2006 survey are currently undertaking the Demographic Health Survey training workshop.
David Haro, an interviewer in the 2006 survey shared his experience when conducting the survey.
