18 participating countries of the international cup congregated on Sunday at Melbourne’s Botanical Gardens for the opening ceremony.
Some of these countries include india, Pakistan, Japan, Indonesia and others including PNG. To mark the opening ceremony of the 6th International Cup Tournament, participating countries were asked to visit the government house, to meet and great and hear a few welcome remarks from Victoria Governor and Minister for Sports.
After the opening remarks and speeches, teams made their way to the popular MCG stadium, where the countries made an opening entrance, showcasing their team colours and country of origin.
The tournament kick-started today and saw the 2014 International Cup favourite, the PNG Mosquitoes take on their 2014 rival, Ireland.
In a very intense match, Ireland managed to score the first match leading the first two quarters.
The Mosquitoes out ride Ireland on 3rd quarter, as it started to rain, before the Mozzies led the Ireland in the third round.
On the fourth quarter, Ireland, managed to score a goal after the Mosquitoes let loose of the ball to the ground, this led Ireland to lead on the last quarter, defeating the 2014 champions with 41 points to 30.
The Mosquitoes’ next match will be against Nauru.
Meanwhile, the National Women’s team, the PNG Flames trashed Europe with an outstanding 59 points to nil.
