Prince William and Kate Middleton have namedtheir son,the third in line tothe throne, George Alexander Louis.
All three names had been amongthe favourit’s listed by British bookmakers andthe announcement was relatively quick by royal standards.
The baby’s official title is His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge.
George has beenthe name of six British kings. The lastoGeorge VI, wasthe fther of Queen Elizabeth II and reigned from 1936 to 1952.
Alexandra,the female form of Alexander, is one ofthe Queen'’s middle names and was alsothe name ofthe Queen consort of King Edward VII atthe start ofthe last century.
Louis is one of William'’s middle names and wasthe given name of Prince Charles'’s mentor and great-uncle Louis Mountbatten, who was assassinated bythe IRA in 1979.
While British royalty don’t typically use a surname,they may use “Wales” or Mountbatten-Windsor” when surname is required. They often have several middle names. Prince William’s full name is William Arthur Philip Louis.
It has often taken some time for royal babies’ names to be announced.
Prince William got his name a week after his birthdate; he’s fther’s name was made public after he was a month old. Bet William’s brther was no exception; his name was announced onthe day he was born.
