A memorandum of Understanding was signed today between the Coffee Industry Corporation, and Gulf governor, Havila Kavo.
The signing of the MOU creates a partnership between the CIC and Gulf provincial government, who will work together to bring innovative and sustainable projects to help rural coffee farmers in Kaintiba.
Kaintiba is known for its high production of organically grown coffee.
Over the years, farmers around the area have been challenged with transportation and access to proper markets. Today, transportation and access to proper markets still remain struggles for many farmers.
The signing of the MOU today will create the pathway for CIC to facilitate and help deliver necessary facilities to help boost coffee production in Kaintiba.
CEO of Coffee Industry Corporation, Mr Charles Dambui, thanked Governor Kavo, for taking the initiative, saying this partnership will bring sustainable outcomes for many coffee farmers in Kaintiba.
An initial amount of K1 million has been allocated by Gulf Provincial Government to develop a rehabilitation program in Kaintiba and Koitanga. Gulf is the third to the sign the MOU with the Coffee Industry Corporation.
Hela and Morobe provinces are two first provinces that have signed the MOU to partner with CIC to help local farmers.
