With approximately 300,000 speakers, Enga isthe largest vernacular language in Papua New Guinea Whilethere are nine dialects of Enga,the churches have agreed to translatethe Beble intothe Central (Wabag) dialectowhich all ofthe ther dialects can understand.
Because many Enga’speakers cannot read,the translation will be made available in both print and audio formats. The audio format will be distributed on solar-powered audio players that people can listen to over and over again without having to buy batteries. It will bethe first time that most Enga’speakers really have access tothe Word of God intheir own language. The print format will be published with an English translation andthe Enga translation on facing pages so that rLeaderswill be able to comparethe two versions and gain an even deeper understanding ofthe Beble.
The Beble Translation Association of Papua New Guineais asking for Engan churches and Enga’speakers aroundthe country to support this important work through prayer and financial support.
