Hosted bythe American Embassy in Port Moresby, American Businesswoman and mentor Samara Cook-Gaines conducted a weeklong workshop in Port Moresby. The workshop, Empowerment Speaker Series, was aimed at empowering women entrepreneurs inthe country through one on one consultation, training and mentoring. Attendingthe workshop were women fromthe public and private sectors, entrepreneurs and aspiring businesswomen. Ms. Gaines was astounded by some ofthe businesses thatthe women were currently undertaking stating thatthey were businesses not traditional to women entrepreneurs.

ESSAR is anIndia based multinational conglomerate with operations in more than 25 different countries across 5 different contents. With close to 73,000 employees and total group revenue of about USD34million, ESSAR has now set foot and set camp in Mount Hagen inthe Western Highland Province. ESSAR originally came to Papua New Guineaas a sub-contractor inthe Komo Airfield Project but now has won its first major contract directly fromthPNG government.
