Papua New Guineahas look to New Zealand for advise onthe re-structure of state owned enterprices.
It will come from Richard Prebble a former New Zealand parliamentarian and an expert inthe reform of State Owned enterprises.
Mr Prebble was introduced tothe Port Moresby business community at a breakfast seminar this morning.
The scene atthe business breakfast facilitated bythe Port Moresby Chamber of Commerce andIndustry, in partnership with ADBewas that of a synergy of new ideas.
It was here that business representatives andthe diplomatic corps were introduced to Prebble, better known as &ldquothe architect of probablythe most comprehensive SOE reform program ever undertaken anywhere inthe world”.
His key message: “If you want state assets to function proficiently,” he said, &ldquothen take government trading activities and treatthem like private companies throughthe management of private sector directors”
The former New Zealand Parliamentarian met with Minister Micah on Monday, to share his thoughts and experiences that would be translated in reformingthe functions of state owned assets here.
Prebble has played a major part inthe privatisation and reform program inthe land ofthe low white clouds, much of which are being replicated aroundthe world today.
Meanwhile, Country Director Marcelo Minc says ADBerecognisesthe importance of State owned assets and is working through its Private Sector DevelopmentInitiative to support reform exercises through Management Restructure,Introducing Competition, Privatisation and enforcing Public Private Partnerships.
