President of the Boroko Swimming Club in Port Moresby, Ryan Agnew, took part in the open water Bridge to Bridge swim in Chicago last month.
Agnew swam 10km, starting from the Golden Gate Bridge and finishing at Bay Bridge.
After coming across the competition online and through friends, he decided to take part in the competition, eventually winning the Bridge to Bridge swim over the many swimmers that took part this year.
He completed the swim in a time of 1:10:25.
Coming in second place was Kevin Donlon from California, USA and third place, Eduardo Collazos of Peru.
All swimmers who registered and took part in the event were closely monitored on their past experiences in open water swimming.
