After congratulating Papua New Guinea’s first ever Olympic debutant for the code of boxing, Thadius Katua, President John Avira was very much impressed with his performance, saying his performance was above expectation.
While speaking with EMTV Sports, he added that the PNG Boxing Federation has been working alongside PNG Sports Foundation, in organising the official who will be on the grounds in Kimbe to officiate the boxing competitions in Kimbe.
With the agreement now cemented between PNGBF and PNGSF, Mr Avira has encouraged boxing associations around the country to start preparing as all participating provinces will come strong, with their athletes, after the success of the code in the last PNG Games.
He described the PNG Games as a talent identification tournament, in any sports, saying champions who are now representing PNG both internationally and in the region have all come from the PNG Games. He said, PNG Games provides an avenue for athletes to showcase their talents.
